Project Overview

This project added annual operational business planning to previous South Central Utah Risk Management grants as a critical risk management strategy for sustainability. The project consisted of workshops that introduced the value of annual operational planning as a means to reduce risk and improve profitability. Emphasis was on education, through one-on-one consultations, to strategically develop an annual operational business plan that addressed improving the business, through benchmarking previous years’ records. Producers attended one of a number of workshops and participated in one-on-one monthly consultations throughout the production year. At the completion of the project, 23 producers had workable annual operational plans and the comprehension to monitor the success of their plans and make appropriate management decisions. Additional producers are on track to implement management plans for their 2014 production year.
