Project Overview
In Nebraska, of the 292 participants who engaged
in completed NCRMEC funded projects, only 14% had developed or implemented
grain marketing plans. Decide NOW is designed to increase implementation of
marketing strategies.
Decide NOW allows producers to have the tools needed to implement and modify
grain
marketing plans anytime, anywhere. This grant, along with other funding
sources, was used to develop a suit of grain marketing tools available on a mobile
phone application for corn, soybean, and wheat producers. The main component of
the grain marketing smartphone app is customizable electronic pre- and
post-harvest marketing plans with a built in reminder system. Additional tools
include: end of day price and basis information, a cost of production utilizing
the University of Nebraska annual crop budgets, and storage decision education.
Curriculum for this project was presented in two stages: producer workshops,
and an in-depth marketing course.
