Project Overview

This project addresses the need to train farmers to reduce human risks associated with Latino farmworkers. Farmers employing Latinos lack the tools and training to understand and address their workers´ human risks. This project will train 120 farmers in areas with Latino concentration in Missouri, who use or will likely use Latino workers. Farmers will attend four workshops to acquire knowledge about Latino workers human risks issues (pesticide exposure, work-related injuries, and illness), skills to effectively address those issues, and tools to increase safety and reliability of the Latino workforce. Additionally, farmers will meet with two large Latino employers to learn about experiences and challenges regarding risks of Latino workers. Project outcomes include producers with a better understanding of the Latino workforce and with new tools to increase workers awareness and safety on the farm. These outcomes will lead to a more reliable and stable Latino workforce on the farm.
