Project Overview

This farm transfer pilot project used a farm transfer survey in the four target counties to learn the farm succession patterns of farmers and their perceptions on farm transfer issues. Two workshops were held in the spring of 2006 to increase awareness of farm succession and estate planning issues. A total of eighty participants attended these two workshops. Efforts after the project ending date will include distribution of results of the farm succession survey via presentations, news articles, and radio programs. A farm succession facilitator´s guide will be developed. This guide will have worksheets and exercises to assist the family through all aspects of farm transfer, including family communications, financial analysis, farm business arrangements, retirement plans, management transfer, rental arrangements, etc.
