Project Overview

The project goal was to develop the livestock enterprise budget module of the Agricultural Budget Calculator (ABC) program and increase utilization of the enterprise budget from both crop and livestock producers. A very positive result of our training and promotional presentations and workshops during the project period was to add an additional 800 users with ABC accounts and increase the use of the program by individuals that have created over 2,700 agricultural enterprises. It was expected during this project period that we would have the livestock enterprise component online. We are delayed in the deployment of it by approximately 60 – 90 days. We have many producers anxious to utilize the livestock enterprise component of the program along with the whole farm module.
ABC components completed and usable now include:

  • Crop enterprise details, including yield, price, revenue, cash, and economic budget reports, breakeven, and risk module information,
  • Overhead expense allocation to specific enterprises,
  • Enterprise budgets can be combined in the whole farm module where projected profit and loss statements can be generated, expenses can be reconciled back to designated enterprises, and a cash flow can be developed,
  • Analysis features have been added to the program including breakeven and sensitivity analysis.

Instructional materials, curriculum and additional tutorial videos are continuously updated as necessary and available to assist users in creating enterprise budgets and utilizing the various features of the program.

The educational piece of this program has continued despite not having the livestock component completed and it will continue as we look forward to helping producers and farm and ranch managers learn it, utilize it, and make use of it as a management decision making resource.
