Project Overview
This project delireached 103 small and value-added livestock producers in Nevada and California. Four workshops and one conference session delivered risk management education to 85 producers on meat community supported agriculture (CSA) programs and collaborative marketing models, business and legal strategies for collaborative marketing, safe and legal methods for meat production and marketing, agricultural business plan development, and the future of Nevada’s meat industry. The workshops and session covered price, financial, and legal risks of direct marketing meat through cooperative and collaborative arrangements. Technical assistance was provided to 18 producers starting or modifying a business. Through participation, producers understood meat CSA models and decided which to implement; understood regional consumer preferences for local meats; developed targeted marketing and consumer education strategies; understood and implemented business structures and strategies for cooperative
marketing; understood, evaluated, and implemented safe meat handling requirements; understood and implemented contracts; developed a business plan; and started a meat CSA or collaborative marketing model.
