Project Overview
This workshop was designed to teach management skills primarily to young dairy farm managers and used a variety of classroom and on-farm consultations to teach the subject matter.
A three-session workshop was held in one location to address the functions of management, production and labor management, and farm financial management. In addition, on-farm consultations were conducted to assist farm families with these imporant issues. One day workshops to address financial management education were conducted in three locations because of a lack of enrollment, but a specific interest in this topic. All participants were given the opportunity to have one free FINPACK analysis completed. Technicians were hired to complete these on-farm consultations with follow-up by county Extension Educators and/or Specialists.
The target audience included farmers in east/northeast and west/northwest Ohio where the significant majority of dairy farms are located. A total of three workshops were conducted to accomodate participants and maximize attendance.
