Project Overview

This project addressed the human, legal and financial risks that attend succession planning among retiring, transitioning and beginning farmers and ranchers. We conducted six succession planning workshops around the state through which an estimated 335 (135 more than projected) producers participated in workshops to understand the core issues that drive succession planning, the legal and financial contexts in which planning occurs, and the principal tools to be used to accomplish such plans. We worked one-on-one with 161 of these producers (111 more than projected) in follow-up clinics to establish the outlines of individual succession plans.
