Project Overview

This project educated Ohio livestock and dairy producers on legal risks posed by increased regulation and public scrutiny of animal agriculture. Workshops in three different Ohio regions introduced producers to Ohio´s new livestock care standards, animal identification regulations, GIPSA rules and farm security issues. In addition to explaining laws and regulations, the project team presented recommended actions and tools for managing legal liability exposure in each risk area, with an emphasis on using business entities for liability protection. The team also used an assessment tool to help participants identify their individual legal risks and encouraged participants to adpopt strategies and actions for reducing risks. Workshop presentations were video recorded and made available on a project website along with written materials.
