Completed Project Report

Through the project Land Access and Land Transfer Readiness through Risk Mitigation Strategies, the Land Stewardship Project supported underserved beginning specialty crop and livestock farmers, retiring farmers, and non-operating landowners to mitigate risk by developing financial, legal, and human resilience and building links to secure affordable land. LSP and partners reached 359 individuals, surpassing our goal of 226 by 60%.    

1. 23 Beginning specialty crop and livestock farmers received 22 hours of financial literacy including budgeting and recordkeeping, needed to apply for Whole Farm Revenue Protection, through Holistic Financial Management training and 1-1 financial mentoring.

2. 42 East African immigrant farmers new to farming in the US received 202 hours of recordkeeping training and practice to build solid financial understanding and make sound decisions.

3. 292 beginning, retiring farmers and non-operating landowners (NOLOs) received 121 hours of human, financial, and legal risk mitigation strategies to access and transition land: through 1-1 conversations, workshops, and networking.  Awareness on the part of hundreds more was built through the farmland clearinghouse and farmer profiles.
