Project Overview
In autumn 2012, staff at the Wyoming Department of Agriculture saw the need for more education and information available for Wyoming producers to help them develop drought contingency plans for the BLM and USFS grazing permits. WDA staff partnered with UW Extension to host a program and between October 2013 and May 2014, we hosted workshops in nine communities and presented one webinar session. Agenda topics included the importance of proactive planning for drought conditions, risk management tools available to help producers make sound decisions, communication strategies for effective conversations about options within grazing permits and resources in each community available to help producers develop drought contingency plans. A panel of producers and agency staff was also on the agenda in several locations to discuss drought contingency plan development and effective cooperation between agencies and permittees.
