This project addressed financial, production, business organization, marketing, human resource and legal environmental risk for existing and potential new beef feedlot operators in Iowa. The project helped producers analyze risks and make decisions to position their operation for economic sustainability. Tools to help analyze records and data in feedlot operations to manage production risk were introduced. Participants learned about risk sharing business arrangements. Eleven workshops were held in multiple locations across the state of Iowa with 225 total participants. Evaluations indicated workshop
information was shared with 560 additional people. A major objective of the project was the revision of the Beef Feedlot Systems manual and it has been downloaded 11,000 times since being available shortly after the
workshops concluded. The Feedlot Facility Economic Assessment Calculator that was developed is also available online.
