This program focused on teaching current and future cow-calf and feedlot producers risk management offered by RMA namely, Livestock Gross Margin (LGM) insurance, Livestock Risk Protection (LRP), Pasture, Rangeland, Forage Insurance (PRF), and Annual Forage (AF) insurance. We focused on marginalized producers and programs which we defined as producers that historically have not received extension programming from USDA-RMA programs.
Marginalized producers were targeted through:
- seventeen (17) live in-person risk management meetings
- two (2) single-day conference (woman in agriculture and women Herd That! conference)
- two (2) youth risk management events (NAYI and FFA Farm and Agribusiness CDE)
- seven (7) extension publications
- four (4) podcasts
- five (5) webinars through the Center for Agricultural Profitability
As a result of this project we had individual contact with 972 unique underserved livestock producers - excluding the contact from individuals from webinars, podcasts, and website visits. Including these individuals we provided a total of 3,558 hours of risk management education. Participants understood available risk management tools, gained hands-on experience using these tools, and some began implementing these practices on their operations. Combined, this grant helped meet both the current and future risk management needs for livestock producers in and around Nebraska.
