Project Overview
Agribusiness is Idaho’s number one economic sector. A strong agricultural
sector is key to the economic health
of Idaho and its rural communities. To better equip Idaho producers to manage production, market, and human risks and
improve profitability, we worked to expand producers’ knowledge and use of various risk management strategies through education and extension
activities. Educational programs
included in-person workshops and webinars on crop and livestock marketing, managing input costs, weather and water outlook, and low-stress livestock handling. Extension programs included beginning farmer/rancher financial training, market outlook, farm succession and estate planning, crop/livestock marketing, and mitigating risk due to changing consumer expectations.
Our target audience was southern Idaho farmers and ranchers. We offered 57 in-person workshops, 2 webinars, and a website to access materials and publications. Over 12-months we had 965 workshop participants, and 19,779 website visits. Producers learned the skills and gained knowledge and tools to help them manage risk and improve profitability.
