Project Overview

This project improved producers' knowledge and risk management skills for South Central Utah producers. One-on-one instruction provided opportunities for participants to: (1) increase their ability to keep, manage, and analyze financial and production records; (2) identify their business's strengths and weaknesses through FINANĀ® analysis; (3) learn to identify useful benchmarks for comparison to industry benchmarks to make sound business decisions; and (4) implement management strategies to reduce financial risks through enterprise diversification.

Producers participated in small, informal peer workshops where they were comfortable in sharing their successes and challenges of identifying and implementing risk
management strategies. At the end of the project, 29 producers increased their confidence
in their record-keeping and analysis abilities, and 20 developed a strategic plan to improve their benchmarks. Three hundred and sixty instructional activities were made during the project's duration.  By including spouses and other business partners, there were 81 participants in the project.
