Project Overview

The short course focused on the new Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) that was recently released by the Food and Drug Administration.  This project informed livestock producers, agricultural professionals, veterinarians, and extension faculty of the VFD rules and regulations, which will lead to an impact in the food safety focus area of the education projects.  The VFD program enabled beef cattle producers to incorporate food safety procedures and strategies on the ranch.  The curriculum of the short course was developed by both Montana State University Extension Faculty and veterinarians.  Moreover, Extension agents were a target audience because they were trained prior to the producer oriented meetings.  According to the meeting evaluations, the overall program rating was 4.3 out of 5 and a the educational value was 4.4 out of 5.
