Project Overview

This project addressed risk management in the area of price by enabling participants to expand their sales to include institutions. Delivery methods included classroom presentations, a series of role playing exercises to prepare participants for the experience of making calls on institutions, as well as extensive follow-up discussions. The target audience was Hmong growers who are current vendors at any of the farmers markets in the Green Bay, WI area. As weekly vendors, this group has already demonstrated production planning skills and has the most experience conducting business in English. The project consisted of six formal workshops plus informal follow-up discussions. Through participation, growers gained the skills and confidence to make sales calls and establish contract(s) for the sale of produce to institutions. The program reuslted in one person planning to call on commercial accounts while another individual wanted to start a community supported agriculture (CSA) subscription program.
