Project Overview

Transitioning to Value-Added Products´ expert team assisted willing farmers to analyze new value-added product potential, develop marketing plans, implement production systems and successfully market products. The focus again maximized success likelihood through education, technical production assistance, planning expertise and market development assistance, with input from current participants. A new group of twenty-six pre-screened participants from three industry sectors attended an introductory class, followed by four additional monthly classes. Producers used the templates presented based on existing curriculum to develop an enterprise analysis, and business and marketing plan, for a product of their choice. The project´s final measurable result: successful production and marketing of value-added products by 18 producers. Site visits documented progress twice during the summer of 2008. Collaborators utilized team strategies to provide technical assistance to farmers transitioning their agricultural enterprises to a new level.
