Project Overview

This project addressed the risk management education topic of Human Risk, specifically Transition and Estate Planning, with innovative uses of technology. The delivery method included online assessment and self-paced tools, three facilitated webinars, and on-site or remote coaching to reinforce learning.  We recruited and served farm families in Michigan (4), Iowa (4) and Indiana (1) with help from MI, WI and MN farm organizations where the principal owners and their children committed to formalizing a farm enterprise transition plan.  The children of the principal owners – those who are still engaged on the farm and those who had left -- were fully engaged via Skype or phone conferencing. In total, we coached approximately 41 family members in face to face and virtual business and transition planning and introduced them to the AgTransitions platform. Nearly all family members viewed the archived webinars and each family completed portions of the  AgTransitions plan.
