Project Overview

AFT and partners successfully assisted Pacific Northwest farmers, ranchers, and agricultural landowners in understanding the production, financial, legal, and human risks associated with entering into lease agreements for photovoltaic (PV) solar energy. This team created a comprehensive solar leasing guidebook for agricultural landowners in the Pacific Northwest and distributed it to ## of landowners. Six virtual workshops were offered, with 67 participants, including representatives of 30 Conservation Districts across Oregon and Washington. To better facilitate access to the information, a separate webinar recording was made, amassing 201 views to date.
All participants showed improvement in each of the seven proposed results, including: deciding whether a solar lease is right for them, understanding the potential of dual-use “agrivoltaic” systems, and, if they choose to enter into lease agreements, effectively advocating for themselves and their farming operations in the lease negotiation process.
