Project Overview
Because of producer demand for education on new technology, the Ohio Direct Marketing Team proposed new risk management education focused on using technology to improve market access. Rapid growth of ‘Maps, Apps & Mobile Media Marketing’ technologies present unique marketing opportunities and risks for specialty crop producers, small farm operators, and value-added producers. The project team conducted targeted interviews and a literature review as they prepared and delivered:
• 9 conference presentations for 410 producers.
• 2 webinars for 100 participants.
• 1 hands-on workshop for 22 producers.
• Multimedia resources for 400+ online visitors.
Conference participants rated the session 6.25 on a scale of 1-7. And 96% of workshop participants reported a very high (55%) or high (41%) increase in ability to improve their online presence for customers.
The Extension Educator curriculum includes a program introduction; presentation and evaluation materials for one-hour seminars and full-day hands-on workshops; participant workbook; program planning and communication resources; tutorials and other support resources available on the website. The investment continues to benefit producers, as the program is integrated into the work of the Ohio Direct Marketing Team and the educational networks of eXtension, the Journal or Extension, and the national MarketMaker network.
