Project Overview

This project developed and delivered management and marketing tools for agritourism (both recreational and educational) enterprise development, increasing participant knowledge in 1) consumer preferences and expectations; 2) appropriate management structure, capital investment, cost implications, and effective marketing strategies; and 3) how regulations, insurance and liability influence agritourism potential. Participants improved their ability to recognize and evaluate risk as well as potential benefits as they developed a business plan for an agritourism enterprise. This project reached 142 farmer/rancher participants in five regions of the state where participants received an agritourism resource assessment guide to provide insight as to potential success for a new enterprise. A final workshop targeted 15 participants who wrote sections of their business plans for launching a new enterprise. Participants also received guidance from technical assistance providers to assist in launching new businesses and networking opportunities will be supported as enterprise growth occurs.
