Adelante Mujeres provided training and education to 42 socially
disadvantaged Latino farmers of specialty crops to better equip them in
establishing sustainable and profitable farm businesses. Our Sustainable
Agriculture program proved farmers with risk management training in the areas
of production, marketing, financial, legal, and human risk. In addition, farm
businesses received added support on production scale up through market access
opportunities and resources. Farmers had access to sell their product through
the Adelante Mujeres Distributor and CSA program, the Forest Grove Farmers
Market, the Hillsboro Farmers Market, to wholesale buyers and to directly to
restaurants.
In addition, this project provided
leadership and empowerment opportunities through the creation of a Latino
Farmer Advisory Council. Members of the advisory council will serve as
ambassadors of the Sustainable Agriculture Program and collaborate
with staff to develop trainings on production, climate variability, enhanced
record keeping, and other challenges faced by Latino farmers in Washington
County, Oregon. There were a total of 4 Latino Farmer Advisory Council Members.
