Project Overview

This project addressed Marketing Risk for beginning and experienced specialty crop farmers in Central Appalachia who are exploring selling to large wholesale markets.  A series of 41 videos was created to help farmers understand how to participate in wholesale markets.  The series includes:

Subject# of Videos
Grading products for wholesale markets, including information on 18 different crops  21
GAP (food safety/traceability) 4
Preseason and production planning 12
Aggregation and logistics (e.g. how to build a storage tunnel, load a truck/prepare deliveries)  4
 In-season volume forecasting 1

The videos are being promoted on ASD’s website, via social media and through ASD's network of partners resulting in farmers being better equipped to determine if large wholesale markets are right for them and positioning them for greater success and fewer rejections.  These videos are particularly useful to farmers who are too remote from buyers or aggregators to obtain 1:1 assistance.
