Project Overview

This project addresses contract risk for new, small and diversifying farm operators in Ohio. We surveyed Ohio operators to identify contracting experiences and needs. Using survey results, we developed a curriculum that: 1) explains fundamentals of contract law, 2) reviews contract clauses and actual contracts, 3) discusses contract negotiation and contract breach, and 4) encourages participants to review and assess their contracting situations. A team of agricultural attorneys presented the curriculum in three locations across Ohio. In addition to the workshop curriculum, project outputs include a contract library and a series of fact sheets and podcasts based on the contract curriculum.
