Project Overview
This project provided Nebraska cow/calf producers with timely information on important risk management tools and strategies to help them better manage their market risk. The project resulted in: improved producer understanding of their risk preferences and market risk management goals; producers better understanding available tools such as LRP insurance, put options, and private treaty contracts; and 29 Nebraska cattle producers developing and implementing a marketing plan that matched their preferences and management objectives. The
project funded seven in-depth workshops in locations spread throughout Nebraska with a total attendance of least 65 people across all locations. Three BeefWatch newsletter articles (125 average downloads) were developed over the course of the project covering the importance of developing, updating, and maintaining a marketing plan as well as the importance of and how to calculate the cost of producing weaned calves. Finally, 137 producers were reached through producer meeting presentations on the project topics.
