Project Overview
Research results from our 2006-2007 Risk Management Agency grant revealed that female agricultural producers are exposed to different risks compared to their male counterparts. We also found that female agricultural producers manage risks differently, particularly in the area of human risk, which includes labor supply and retention. This proposal reflects an independent second phase of the RMA study, where we will conduct outreach programs that reflect knowledge gained during the study. We will conduct two outreach programs for female agricultural producers in Western Colorado and Utah that focus on risk, strategic planning, and business management training. The targeted learning objectives for these programs will reflect a step-by-step risk management process specific for female agricultural producers and women-owned niche agricultural operations. We will verify our results and reach out to more individuals by publicizing the success stories that result from implementing the strategic management plans developed in our conferences.
