Project Overview
This two - part project immersed five underserved farmers in financial risk management education and trained five more underserved farmers to become mentors. Five Hmong fresh market vegetable growers participated in four training sessions with individual follow up. Participants learned to file receipts following Schedule F categories, learned how to track income and completed an earnings report based on sample records. They were introduced to how to calculate cost of production. Participants were recruited through the Fondy Farm incubator. Training & follow up was supported by farm incubator staff and a DATCP Hmong outreach specialist. The five mentor trainees participated in a two-day training with an emphasis on teaching financial records in their community. They will each mentor at least two more Hmong farmers the next growing season. Mentors received a modest stipend for their efforts in this pilot. Evaluation will continue after the grant closes.
