Project Overview

California FarmLink’s project, Farm and Grazing Lease Agreements: Managing Legal and Financial Risks for California Farmers and Ranchers supported small, beginning and socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers in managing legal and financial risks of lease agreements in three California regions: North Coast, Central Coast, and Central Valley.

Through four Lease Clinics, 161 producers learned about the legal and financial risks of lease agreements and options to manage those risks. Thirty-six producers received individual technical assistance and resources to acquire deeper understanding of these topics, analyze agreements, and develop and implement sound leases; 26 implemented new leases, updated leases, and expanded onto new land. Ten farmers and ranchers received individual technical assistance at conferences and workshops to understand and evaluate lease options. Work with Land Trusts to facilitate farming and grazing lease opportunities resulted in two producers with signed leases on land trust ground, and two in process.
