Project Overview
Through this project, 102 farmers in the Western region received effective, actionable training in farm employment law issues through a series of 1 overview guide, 11 tip sheets, and 4 comprehensive manuals. This project created an advanced farm employment law course available online in a self-paced format. The workshop provides learners with a series of 9 worksheets for analyzing their farm employment law obligations and setting intentions for risk reduction. This project also developed 11 "tip sheets" that serve as state specific guides to each Western state's farm employment laws. These tip sheets combine state and federal laws so farmers don't have to do the work of merging the two themselves. We also developed \our advanced guides that address legal details such as the definition of agricultural labor which is highly relevant to interpreting state laws. This project suffered issues with changing laws, delayed release of the workshop and resources, and difficulty motivating usage of the workshop and resources in September 2022 as many complex forces hit farm businesses nationwide and interest in online education declined greatly.
This project will continue to have an impact beyond the term of the grant as the organization creating the course and the resources will continue to distribute and support their usage indefinitely. This organization will also maintain the accuracy of the resource with updates as farm employment law continues to evolve.
