Project Overview

The objective of the project is to teach participants how financial conditions impact risk bearing ability and how different marketing strategies and insurance products affect the distribution of potential net revenue. The program will utilize three different case examples into the decision making process. The program also will illustrate the impact of government farm program payments on marketing and insurance decisions.

The targeted audiences are corn and soybean producers in Iowa as well as service providers such as crop insurance agents and agricultural lenders. The participants will attend a 3-hour workshop involving five hands-on activities utilizing the case examples.

Upon completion of the workshop participants will understand how to integrate crop insurance with marketing strategies to reduce credit risk, decrease revenue variability, and increase overall long term profitability of the operation. They also will receive a resource CD-ROM with three spreadsheets that they can use to analyze their own operations.
