Project Overview

This program developed and delivered a concentrated marketing program for dairy producers that focused on key milk marketing factors. Dairy producers are fairly new to marketing and marketing programs tend to overwhelm them with extensive information. This program focused on one price risk management tool, fixed price Class III contracts. The half-day program has two parts. First a presentation focusing on recognizing a good market price for each month, understanding master agreements with processors and the mechanics of executing a fixed price contract. Second, the program includes a simulation game allowing dairy farmers to execute fixed price Class III milk contracts for a case farm over a 12 month period. Seven workshops were held in Minnesota, one workshop was held in Wisconsin and train-the-trainer sessions were held in Iowa and Wisconsin. A total of 172 particiapnts attended the workshops.
