Project Overview

This project addressed marketing and product risk through educational programming on winter farming and season extension with three workshops, one tour with a meeting of producers and buyers, one-on-one consultations, two sessions at the Small Farms conference and a follow-up session for producers. The three workshops covered production, planning, season extension, weather considerations, direct marketing and enterprise budgeting. In addition, participants attended a one-day market and production tour with a buyer/producer meeting and receive one-on-one consulting from OSU Extension staff. Two session on winter farming were held at the OSU Small Farms conference, which attracts 600+ participants. Finally, participants attended a follow-up forum. A total of 48 participants attended the workshops. An estimated 150 producers attended the two conference session. 21 workshop participants completed enterprise, market and/or production plans. 12 added or expanded a new winter enterprise to their farm.
