Project Overview

Commercial farmers, lenders and insurance agents understand integrating crop insurance, pre-harvest price tools with farm programs through nine regional workshops held prior to the crop insurance cancellation deadlines for corn and soybeans. Outlook meetings held prior to harvest allowed farmers to adjust their pre-harvest price risk management plans. Extension bulletins, newsletters, and presentations supplemented the workshops to enhance understanding. The target audience was located in the primary grain producing regions of West and Central Kentucky.

494 producers, agricultural lenders, crop insurance agents and Extension agents received training on crop insurance and price risk management tools. As a result, farmers have improved understanding of these risk products and how to combine crop insurance, price risk management tools with government program payments to manage risk and to preserve the farm's working capital.
