Project Overview

Wisconsin farm women learned that being involved with a farm business means getting educated and organized in areas of production management, financial management, marketing, legal issues, and human resources. Annie’s Project is a program designed to mentor and educate farm women about the five areas of risk management. Participants learned through lecture, activities and hands on computer time. The women felt the program was a positive experience because of the networking opportunities and the hands on learning, especially with financial management topics. They indicated that knowing there would be only women in the class provided a non-threating and more comfortable learning environment for them. Future Annie´s Projects are being planned in three additional locations for the 2006-07 programming year. The majority of the farm women in Wisconsin are still from dairy enterprises, we are struggling with the best time to hold the workshops to encourage participation. Adjustments are being made to adapt the information to beginning and aspiring farm women with more value added and direct marketing information.
