Project Overview

Through the Farm Transitions Project, a series of four one-day workshops were held to help participants  understand the importance of transition planning, evaluate their transition options, and discuss alternatives with their stakeholders. A following two-day event provided participants with access to experts in farm financial analysis and family communications and provided an opportunity for facilitated family meetings to jump start the transition planning process.  Research on the transition planning process and experiences from the workshops provided resources used to develop a Farm Transitions Workbook, available both as download and in hardcopy.  The Workbook, coupled with online video modules, allow users to go through the transition planning process at their own pace and to engage other family members as they proceed.  These resources are available on a revised Farm Transitions website, along with a bibliography of additional materials that can aid in the transition planning process.
