Project Overview

The North Central Farm Bill Education Project provided funding to support the national "2008 Farm Bill Education Conference" in Kansas City, at which 48 of the 90 participants were from the North Central Region. Participants at the conference received training and educational materials to use in follow-up education efforts in their own states. In addition, educational materials from the conference available on the Ag Risk Education Library have been downloaded more than 30,000 times.

Additional funding in the project helped support follow-up educational efforts across the North Central Region that reached more than 20,000 producers directly. As a result, producers gained knowledge of the new farm bill, were able to analyze farm program alternatives, and were able to make optimal farm program sign-up and risk management decisions. An analysis of the direct farm bill education efforts suggests an economic impact of more than $100 million per year in improved agricultural profitability.
