Project Overview
Wisconsin AgLink is a project designed to address the human, legal and financial risks involved in farm succession. It attempts to reach college junior and seniors who are planning on returning to their home farm. This project was conducted at two 4-year universities in Wisconsin (2005-06 UW-Platteville & 2006-07 UW River Falls). Sixty-seven people representing 23 families participated in the program. A six-month follow-up evaluation was conducted with the participants from the 2005-06 workshops. Fifteen surveys (out of 23) were returned for a 65% response rate. One hundred percent of the respondents said they increased knowledge and skills in the area of strategic planning for succession. Seventy-three percent said they increased skills in communications. Ninety-four percent either agreed or strongly agreed that they had analyzed their farmĀ“s financial capacity to carry multiple families after participating in the workshops. This compares to only 10% before the workshops.
