Project Overview

This project provided business plan, cash-flow, and record keeping training to refugee producers through workshops and technical assistance to reduce financial and legal risks and expand market opportunities through passing the Good Agricultural Practices and Good Handling Practices(GAP/GHP) audit. The project period was from July 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010. An average of 18 refugee producers participated in five workshops on topics including business plans, cash flow and budgeting, record keeping, marketing, and the requirements of USDA GAP/GHP. IRC program staff alongside mainstream service providers conducted culturally and linguistically (interpretation provided) workshops and technical assistance. The producers received tools to implement record keeping practices on their farms and created their own business plans, analyze cash-flow and keep records. After the workshops, producers were equipped to successfully pass the GAP/GHP audit, and twenty accessed new credit sources.
