The Midwest Forage Association (MFA) held its Positioning for Success - Risk Management Education for Forage Farmers Symposium on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 16 & 17. This project utilized an online platform within which MFA successfully held its meeting “virtually.”
A total of 270 participants joined us to hear educational sessions provided which were focused on reducing financial and production risk for forage farmers. Twenty-seven educational sessions dealing with everything from crop insurance and the dairy margin program to irrigating and determining when to apply fungicides to crops to reduce the risk of disease.
In addition, MFA also planned and coordinated a follow-up webinar to detail the benefits and costs associated with participation in the Forage Seeding Crop Insurance Program. More than 50 additional participants learned about which forage crops can be covered by the program, important dates, covered states and counties, and examples of costs and potential indemnities if claims are filed.
MFA also held a follow-up meeting in northern Minnesota which attracted another 86 attendees during which many of the presentations which were offered at the Symposium were re-played. This meeting was for the Northeastern Minnesota Forage and Grassland Council, a local council of the Midwest Forage Association.
