Project Overview
Annie’s Project 2010 offered instruction in Estate/Transition Planning, Grain Marketing, and Records Management.
The first marketing session covered marketing terms and procedures and introduced a marketing game simulation prepared especially for the Montana Annie’s Project participants to play during the month long seminar period, which enabled them to practice skills being learned in a real time price scenario. Grain elevator representatives attended a portion of the class to explain settlement sheets and familiarize participants with processes of marketing at the elevator.
The second class session provided an ag specific records management class in a computer lab taught by local accountants at each site and participants were able to practice with records management software.
Husbands were invited to attend the last two sessions, an estate and transition planning session conducted with interactive video conferencing where couples were encouraged to make a will and prepare for eventual farm transfer, and an advanced marketing session which considered various marketing options and results. The marketing game outcome was also reviewed. While there was not time for participants to determine their own breakeven point and preferred profit margin, they were able to review their own situations and consider what changes might be beneficial for their operation.
