This project addressed on-farm direct marketing and agritourism opportunities for Oregon producers. Through a 3-part learning method we engaged producers to help them manage production, legal, financial, human and marketing risks associated with opening farms to the public. We developed a self-paced, online module that covers conducting farm direct sales through agritourism activities such as farm stands, U-pick, CSA or online sale pick-up, and tours. 128 participants registered for the online training, of those 50 completed the evaluation. At the completion of the course, producers have an outline for an action plan. Phase two entailed hosting county specific webinars. As state agritourism rules are interpreted at the county level, participants were encouraged to attend webinars and interact directly with their county planner. Twenty-three participants took advantage of the webinars. Participants were offered personal on-farm consulting to assess risk and assist with action planning. Twenty-one followed through with an on-farm consultation. Ten participants completed the action plan while another 30 are still working on it with intentions to complete it. Four don't intend to complete the action plan, two stating that the curriculum provided them with information and they decided that agricultural tourism is not a feasible plan. Program enrollment continues.
