Project Overview

North Dakota ranked first in the nation in wind energy potential by the American Wind Energy Association. North Dakota has twenty wind farms online with a capacity of 767 megawatts.

This project was intended to educate agricultural producers, landowners, wind farm community cooperative members and wind farm developers about wind turbine leases, regulations and tax credits. The education was also intended for “small wind” (farm size less than 100 kilowatts) projects. The project objective was to disseminate wind information and help participants with the risk assessment and management of wind projects.

Two workshops were conducted in locations near proposed wind farms. A publication is being developed regarding wind leases, energy credits and federal and state regulations. A publication was developed about “small wind”. Economic, legal and liability issues are covered.

Attendance at workshops was 51.

Number of Participants: 51
