Project Overview
Beginning farmers and ranchers throughout seven counties in Central Utah participated in gaining the knowledge and skills to reduce financial and production risks as well as legal risk. Through individualized education, producers learned to proficiently use QuickBooks to input their financial data, generate profit and loss statements and statements of cash flow, use hard copies of spreadsheets for recording crop and livestock production data, and benchmark their businesses against industry benchmarks. Participants participated in a group workshop and at least 10 individualized training sessions during the project. At the completion of the project, 42 producers were able to accurately generate all financial statements, and they recorded production data in a spreadsheet. Twenty-three participants completed a year-end report and performed basic business analysis, including benchmarking of their businesses. The one-on-one instructional visits culminated in 345 face-to-face instructional activities during the project.
