Project Overview

A series of Low-Stress Cattle Handling Seminars were held for cattle handlers from the ranch through the feedlot.  The project was funded by the Western Center for Risk Management Education.  Dr. Tom Noffsinger, Curt Pate and Ted Howard, nationally-renowned authorities on cattle care and handling, served as the primary instructors.  5 workshops were conducted for cow/calf producers, feedlot managers/stakeholders and youth.  Two workshops were expanded to offer horsemanship low-stress cattle handling seminars and BQA Certification.

The 25-minute video, “Low-Stress Cattle Handling:  Understanding & work with Cattle Instinct”, that was published in 2014 from 2012/2013 RME Low-Stress Cattle Handling seminars (RME project M3B04565) was translated to Spanish and made available to all feedlot personnel in Washington and on-line.

One low-stress cattle handing demonstration was offered at the PNW Young Cattlemen’s Tour.  One peer reviewed publications was published to WSU Extension Publications (FS176E).  Two invited presentation on low-stress cattle/livestock handling were presented.
