The purpose of this project addressed the
risk management issues related to inheritance and operation of agricultural
land assets. Specifically, education outcomes from this project addressed the
management, legal, and financial elements of risk faced by operators who recently
inherited a farm or ranch. The target audience for this project included young
and beginning producers, new agricultural operation owners, and allied
agricultural professionals across the state. Outreach for this project was
delivered across Nebraska through 25 strategically located face-to-face workshops approximately
three hours in length reaching 610 participants. Two online webinars were also offered and reached over 200 participants. In addition to
the in-classroom meetings, additional lectures were made available
electronically via the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of
Agricultural Economics' Nebraska Farm Real Estate and Farm Succession websites.
Access to these websites remain open to the general public as a risk management
resource.
Over 72 percent of the participants
indicated that the information provided at this workshop increased their
understanding of strategic succession and transition planning decisions and 68
percent indicated that agricultural land leases and written contracts were improved
due to participation in the program.
