The Agricultural
Budget Calculator (ABC) program (agbudget.unl.edu) provides breakeven,
individual enterprise, and whole farm enterprise reports that are useful in
production, cost control, marketing, and other management decisions. This
project supported continued development of the ABC program focused primarily on
the details necessary for building crop enterprise budget components, allowing
farmers to calculate their cost of production per acre or unit and estimate
their net returns per enterprise and by whole farm along with some analysis
features useful in decision-making.
Program components completed include the
following: crop enterprise details, land ownership or rental arrangements per
farm or field, materials and inputs, field operations including machinery and
implements and irrigation expense data. To assist in ease
of program usability, budget duplication features were added.
The whole farm
component of the program allows users to generate projected whole farm net return reports and to calculate cost of production per crop from combined field or farm enterprise data. Whole farm, breakeven yield, and price
sensitivity reports along with a crop comparison analysis component and the ability to create a monthly cash flow statement was added to
assist producers in decision-making.
Updated tutorials,
webinars, publications, and 20 training workshops were conducted with other
presentations and activities focused on enterprise budgeting and the ABC
program.
Altogether there
were 92 workshop participants and over 682 direct contacts for the period.
There are now 713 ABC program users with 1541 budgets
created.
