Project Overview

This project targeted 200 young (ages 18-35), beginning (less than 10 years experience) and small (gross farm income under $250,000) farmers across 18 counties in Northwest Ohio.

Many young, beginning or small farmers have limited experience in managing risk. Well established operations are afforded greater resources through an exisitng network of suppliers and advisors.

148 farm operations were represented by 237 individuals over the five series course. Participants identified the five areas of risk and laid the ground work for a comprehensive risk management plan. Sessions built layers of tools allowing them to hone in on weaknesses, improve decision making skills and increase their ability to manage risk. The final capstone brought together information, expert resources and networking for the 131 participants.
