Project Overview
The Art of Range podcast was established in 2018 to deliver education to livestock producers on rangeland ranching risks. That ERME funding enabled this project team to build the current podcast platform and deliver high-value education on a variety of rangeland science subjects through over 80,000 educational 'listening' events across ~2200 listeners as of September 2021. We are expanding the number of people influenced by this podcast and broadening the subject matter, addressing primarily production and financial risks, with specific podcast topics to be guided by a producer panel. The target audience remains ranchers and rangeland professionals in the western United States. The podcast hosts a new episode every two weeks over the life of the grant. The methodology is audio broadcast of one-hour interviews distributed through the existing podcasting platform, artofrange.com, syndicated through iTunes and Stitcher. Outreach has expanded from ~600 regular listeners to approximately 2200 listeners through this grant. Listeners have learned how to address complex risk related to ranch profitability, social sustainability, and quality of life. The grant facilitated education on new topics to new audiences using existing technology and capacity and we are investigating the feasibility of podcasting as a perpetual risk education platform.
