Project Overview
Annie’s Project is a comprehensive educational program and support network for Midwestern farm women employing the premise that there are many learning avenues and abundant technologies to manage a farm business. This program will extend and enhance Annie’s Project educational efforts in Iowa, Missouri and eighteen additional states covering all four Risk Management Centers. Having grown from a two state effort in 2004, we now offer Annie’s Project to farm women in 20 states. Additional inquires and request for program training and material have been received from additional states in all Risk Management Center states. The curriculum targets subjects relevant to farm business risk management, promotes group dynamics, enhances interpersonal skills, and introduces the best available technologies in farm business management. Each class session focuses on introducing specific information and management training in financial, production, marketing/price, legal and human resources risk management adapted to the location of the class in each of the twenty states.
This project focuses on education with 170 classes taught and 3193 participants. The expected outcomes and impacts of the workshops have been met with farm business women increasing their knowledge, skills and abilities and making behavior changes in all five risk management areas. Participants developed whole farm business plans, marketing plans, implemented boards of advisors and developed networks for support. Additionally, curriculum support has been extended to twenty states in other Risk Management Regions. these support services encompass instructor training, maintaining curriculum integrity, expansion, improvement and maintenance of the Annie’s Project web site, interactive bulletin board, coordinating advanced studies for participants through the ISU Extension AMES courses and bulk purchase savings on Annie’s Project consumables.
